Our Commitment

Stay inthe houseyou love.

In AARP’s 2024 survey, 75% of adults 50 and older said they want to stay in their current homes as they age, and 72% expected to need grab bars. We design it in so it looks like a beautiful bathroom, not a hospital: a curbless shower, blocking in the walls for grab bars, a bench, better light, and doors wide enough to matter.

From Ryan

Ryan McNee, owner, The Home X

Nobody wants a hospital bathroom. Curbless shower, a bench, blocking for grab bars, a wider door: done right, it just looks beautiful.

Do it while the room is open. Later costs more, and you live through the dust twice.

Schedule

Set in your written scope

  1. 01

    Curbless Showers

No step to trip on. The floor is recessed or sloped so the water stays in, and it’s waterproofed under the tile.

  2. 02

    Grab Bars That Look Designed

Solid blocking in the walls first, then bars that double as towel bars and shelves.

  3. 03

    Seats and Reach

A built-in shower bench, a handheld shower, and controls you can reach from outside the spray.

  4. 04

    Doors and Hallways

Wider doorways, lever handles and pocket doors where a swinging door is in the way.

  5. 05

    Floors and Light

Slip-resistant tile, no thresholds between rooms, and light that’s bright where you need it.

  6. 06

    A First-Floor Suite

When the stairs are the problem: a bedroom and bath on the main floor, from an existing room or an addition.

Common Questions

Aging-in-Place Bathrooms & Homes
— answered honestly.

Straight answers about aging-in-place bathrooms & homes, before you sign.

No. A curbless shower with a linear drain reads as modern, not medical. Grab bars come in finishes that match the faucets and can double as towel bars, and the blocking behind the wall means you can add more later without opening it up.

That’s the best time. Blocking in the walls, a curbless shower and a wider door cost less while the bathroom is already open than as a separate job later.

What we quote for bathrooms: a refresh $10,586 to $22,810, a guest or hall bath $22,810 to $33,649, and a primary bath $33,649 to $48,906. For a wider view, Cost vs. Value 2025, Middle Atlantic region puts a midrange bathroom remodel at $30,158 and an upscale one at $90,090. Your exact number comes in a written scope after our visit, before you sign anything.

Yes. We pull the permits the work needs, and the fee is in your scope. Any permit is in place before that work starts.

A crew we manage does the work; plumbing, electrical and HVAC work goes to subcontractors in those trades, and other specialty trades when a job needs them. You still deal with one company and one point of contact the whole way through.

You get a written change order with the price, and the extra work starts only after you sign it. That goes for changes you ask for and for problems we find once the walls or floors are open.

A 1-year workmanship warranty on our installation, written into your contract. Manufacturer warranties on the products themselves pass through to you.
