Our Commitment

Waterproof first.Thenthe tile.

We set tile in showers, on floors, backsplashes and walls, inside a kitchen or bathroom remodel or on its own. In a shower the part that matters most is behind the tile: the waterproofing goes on before a single tile does.

Scope of Work

What We Deliver

Your written scope lists what we do and don’t do, the materials, allowances, schedule and price.

Investment

In your written scope

Schedule

Set in your written scope

  1. 01

    Showers

A waterproofed base and walls first, then the tile, with niches and benches built in where you want them.

  2. 02

    Bathroom Floors

Set over a flat, stiff base, so the tile and the grout stay put.

  3. 03

    Kitchen Backsplashes

From subway tile to full slab-height walls, cut around outlets, windows and the hood.

  4. 04

    Large-Format Tile

Big tiles need a flatter surface than small ones. We flatten the floor or wall first, and that work is in your scope.

  5. 05

    Layout Before Setting

We lay the tile out before it’s set, so the cuts land where you won’t see them.

  6. 06

    Grout and Sealing

Grout chosen for where it’s going, and sealed where the grout or the stone needs it.

Why The Home X

One point of contact.
Scope and changes in writing.

01

Written Scope After Our Visit

After our visit you get it in writing: what we do and don’t do, the materials, allowances, schedule and price. If it isn’t in the scope, it isn’t in the job.

02

A Crew We Manage

A crew we manage does the work; plumbing, electrical and HVAC work goes to subcontractors in those trades, and other specialty trades when a job needs them. You have one point of contact.

03

Written Change Orders

If you change something, or we open a wall and find a problem, you get a written change order with the price. That work starts only after you sign it.

04

1-Year Workmanship Warranty

Your contract carries a 1-year workmanship warranty. Manufacturer warranties on fixtures, appliances and materials pass through to you.

You Decide

You owe nothing until you sign. Anything you haven’t picked yet is carried as an allowance in the scope.

05

The Build

On site

A crew we manage does the work; plumbing, electrical and HVAC work goes to subcontractors in those trades, and other specialty trades when a job needs them. On your job, any permit the work needs is in place before that work starts. If something puts a date at risk, you hear it from us first.

06

Changes and Warranty

In writing

Any change comes as a written change order, priced and signed before that work starts. Your contract carries a 1-year workmanship warranty.

Common Questions

Tile Installation
— answered honestly.

Straight answers about tile installation, before you sign.

It depends on the tile, the size of the room and what’s under it. We only publish prices from jobs we’ve signed, and tile on its own isn’t one of them yet. Your number comes in a written scope after our visit.

Grout lets water through over time. What keeps it out of the wall and the floor is the waterproof layer underneath, so that layer goes on first, and the tile goes over it.

Tile on its own usually doesn’t. In New Jersey, new flooring, tile included, is ordinary maintenance under the state construction code (N.J.A.C. 5:23-2.7). Once plumbing moves, as it often does in a shower, the plumbing needs a permit, and the permit and the plumbing work are both in your scope.

A crew we manage does the work; plumbing, electrical and HVAC work goes to subcontractors in those trades, and other specialty trades when a job needs them. You still deal with one company and one point of contact the whole way through.

You get a written change order with the price, and the extra work starts only after you sign it. That goes for changes you ask for and for problems we find once the walls or floors are open.

A 1-year workmanship warranty on our installation, written into your contract. Manufacturer warranties on the products themselves pass through to you.
